Why an Annual Service Matters
A boiler that hasn’t been checked regularly can develop faults. Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless, meaning the only reliable way to protect against it is to have your boiler inspected by a qualified engineer on a regular basis. During a service, your engineer will check that combustion is occurring correctly and that all safety devices are functioning as they should.
Beyond safety, there are very real financial reasons to service your boiler annually. A boiler working harder than it needs to – due to a minor fault or build-up of residue – uses more energy to produce the same amount of heat. That inefficiency shows up on your energy bills every month. Catching small issues early also prevents them from developing into the kind of major faults that require expensive parts or a full boiler replacement.
Keeping Your Manufacturer’s Warranty Intact
Most new boilers come with a manufacturer’s warranty of several years, and in some cases up to ten years. However, the vast majority of these warranties include a condition: the boiler must be serviced annually by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. If that condition isn’t met, the warranty can be invalidated – leaving you without cover if a significant fault develops.
